According to the latest Cornell/SelectLeaders Job Barometer report, 2014 saw a dramatic increase in jobs across all sectors of commercial real estate. Job opportunities within the industry increased by 23.2 percent in 2014 from 2013 totals, and it was the first year in which the number of job openings surpassed those available in 2007. This momentum is expected to continue in 2015.
The supply of candidates for property management has lagged behind the increasing demand; property management comprises 14.8 percent of all job posting, but only 6.2 percent of applications. Positions with office properties remain relatively competitive, however, and the rise of mixed-use properties have made retail experience especially valuable for these applicants.
